Peconic Estuary Aerial Eelgrass Survey & Groundtruthing

In 2024, PEP invested in aerial flyovers to collect imagery for the entirety of the Peconic Estuary. Along with collecting imagery, a groundtruthing assessment combined with ortoimagery was utilizedr to accurate determine the acreage of seagrass meadows remaining within the estuary. This imagery has been analyzed to determine selection for the Peconic estuary’s SeagrassNET sites. This methodology will be conducted every three years moving forward.
