Pathogen Load Assessment (2012) 1) Hashamomuck...
The Peconic Estuary Program requires an enhanced assessment of non-point source pathogens that degrade Peconic Estuary water quality to guide the development of watershed management plans. The Peconic Bay Pathogens TMDL (TMDL) identified and estimated the pathogen contributions from both point and non-point sources. However, while site-specific data were available for the point sources of pathogens (e.g., wastewater treatment plants and commercial and industrial plants with discharge permits), such data were limited for non-point sources (e.g., waterfowl, pets and failing septic systems). The purpose of this project is to obtain site-specific data and prepare a new estimate of pathogen loads from non-point sources in four subwatersheds of the Peconic Estuary Program as follows: 1) Hashamomuck Pond, 2) Jockey, Town and Goose Creeks, 3) Reeves Bay and 4) Sebonac Creeks Complex. The key findings of this study _ along with recommendations to address critical issues are summarized.
